Reported AMD CPU temperatures

In the output of "sensors"...

...the "Tctl" and the "Tccd1" mean the following:

  • "Tccd1":
    the physical temperature of the Zen 5 compute die where the 8 CPU cores live.
    This should be what the classical "CPU temperature" used to be with AMD & Intel CPUs.
  • "Tctl":
    is an offset control temperature (it reports the highest junction point on the whole chip, which is usually the I/O Die or a single aggressive thermal diode spike) so the motherboard fan controller knows how fast to spin the fans
